A Thief's Holiday

A Thief's Holiday 2004, Multiplayer Edition
by sNeaksieGarrett
Original documentation, unedited, is below the dotted line.
- Three additional spawn points have been added to make the mission “multiplayer compatible.” This version is to allow people to not have to spawn in the same spot, but instead have their own inventory, and own spawn point. Tos' multiplayer patch makes this version of A Thief's Holiday possible. Visit the Thief Series General Discussion forum at TTLG forums to find the multiplayer beta. This mission can be played in multiplayer thanks to Tos' awesome multiplayer patch. Any bugs should be reported to Tos on the “thief 2 multiplayer beta released” thread. Credit goes to typeRED for discovering the possibility of multiple spawn points. I hope you enjoy your taffing about in A Thief's Holiday! And have a happy holiday! (Written December 2008.) Below is some additional information. Please note that at the time of this writing, this mission had some trouble with clients using objects and is not the mission's fault, but the patch used to play thief in multiplayer. Future builds of the patch may not have these issues anymore.

Multiplayer Edition Releases:
- (First release) 20th Dec 2008
- 03 Jan 2009

Known Problems:
With multiplayer, only the host (that is, the person who created the multiplayer match) can do the following things:
- Pick up the broom and use it on dirt (if client picks it up then objective can not be completed because client can't sweep the floor.)

- Pick up and use matches on fireplace (if client picks up matches, he or she can not drop them and can not light the fire.)

- Pick up and use cookies on plates. (If client picks them up, again, the cookies can not be dropped and can not be used on the plates.)

- Pick up and use gems on the display (client can not use gems on display)

- Put music on the victrola to complete an objective

- Use paintings, pour wine, cut the cake.

Pretty much any object you can think of can not be used by the client, except keys. The keys are usable by the client, as far as I know. This does limit gameplay for the client unfortunately, but the client could be a scout and help the host find stuff.

Additional issues include (darkhooks.dlx missing):

- If host and client do not have the required custom script (Gaylesaver's “darkhooks”) for this mission, hard can't be completed. (The key needed is unfrobable. Also note that this occurs in singleplayer as well, this is not just a multiplayer issue. This mission must have the custom scripts to work the way it was intended.) While the original mission already included scripts.osm, the darkhooks.dlx was not included. Please make sure you get the scripts package from http://www.thiefmissions.com/scripts/
File is called: UsrScriptT2_1x2BugFix.zip

- The rope arrow is unfrobable without the script. Interestingly enough, the rope arrow works fine in singleplayer even without darkhooks.dlx. (not multiplayer related – the rope arrow will refuse to work in multiplayer no matter what, with build 189 or earlier.)

A Thief's Holiday 2004
by Yandros

Date of release – December 15, 2004
Version – 2.2a (2003 edition is 1.x)
Webpage – http://home.insightbb.com/~yandros/

Version History:
v2.2a – Added German translation (no functional changes)
v2.2 – Fixed mission end bug involving camvator outro and snowballs
v2.1 – Added two missing files
v2.0 – Original 2004 release

Description:
You’re throwing a big holiday party for a few close friends, and
you have a LOT of things to do to get ready! Complete everything
on your checklist before your guests arrive.

Objectives:
There are three main things to do:
1. Do some housecleaning.
2. Bring a festive mood into the house.
3. Prepare some refreshments.

Under each main task, a list of subtasks will appear. There are more subtasks on
each higher difficulty. Complete all subtasks to complete one of the three main tasks.

Difficulties:
Normal – Everything you need to accomplish your tasks is in plain view and/or
in a logical location (i.e. where you'd expect it to be and/or near where it is used).
Hard – Items needed to complete your tasks are more out of the way, but nothing
is up in the rafters, and hence no rope arrow is available or necessary.
Expert – The items you need are well hidden and in completely illogical locations.
A rope arrow is available (if you can find it) for searching up in the rafters, although
it is possible to get in the rafters without it. Hopefully this mode will be a challenge
to those who enjoy one.

Note: I recommend playing Normal first, to learn how to use the items needed to perform your
tasks, before moving on to the two higher difficulties where just finding the items is more
challenging.

Cheats/Hints available:
There is an HTML Cheat Sheet included with this mission.
Look for ATH04_CheatSheet.html in your Thief 2 directory.
This file should also be available at Thiefmissions as the “Hints” file.

Victrola Note:
In each difficulty, 3-5 victrola records are available. You can put them on the player
and remove them at will, swapping them out as you wish to change the music. As long
as one of them is playing, you have met the requirement for that objective.

Music Credits:
Victrola Records:
Bing Crosby – Let It Snow!
Jim Brickman – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Steve Erquiaga – God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
Liz Story – The Christmas Song
TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) – O Holy Night

Ambient (outside): Patrick O’Hearn – A Lovely Place To Be
From his CD So Flows The Current (2000)

Known Problems:
From a few vantage points, objects can vanish. There are a lot of objects in
the mission for atmosphere, although most are non-interactive (not frobbable).
This is an engine limitation and I did the best I could to minimize it by adding
the extra walls in the living room, which was originally one large room.

Big Thanks to:
Beta testers:
Dafydd, FreddyFox, Nightwalker, Peter Smith, Ponterbee

Additional Thanks to:
Jason (epithumia) for hosting
Sluggs for being himself
